Steve Saleen has been out of the loop for a while before the latest Saleen Mustang was announced last week. Apparently, the old codger decided to come out of retirement to release the baddest Mustang to date! Well, "baddest", may certainly be an appropriate adjective for some, others may just look at the car and cringe. Personally, I think it's great. There simply aren't enough cars on the road that exude this kind of automotive enthusiasm anymore. What could possibly be more enthusiastic than a bright orange drop-top, with a supercharged 5.7L V8? (Other than the Lamborghini Veneno)
With roughly 700 horses on hand, and 655ft lbs of torque, the tires are constantly at the mercy of the pilot at the helm. In all honesty, I've never been a fan of convertibles, but that's not to say they don't have their perks. Especially when the drop-top in question has a quite the significant roll bar across the roof line.
Now for the con's. THAT HOOD IS HIDEOUS. Seriously, why the heck would anyone put so many stupid little tiers on the dang thing? It just makes it look like Vin Diesels interpretation of what a Mustang should be. Just, ew. And the aero-cover for the rear seats? Really? Why not just take out the power steering and A/C to make it even less practical than it already is? I suppose the kind of person who would buy this thing isn't necessarily the kind that has children that need a back seat, but still. The cover just turns it into the biggest convertible on the road. (next to the Nissan Murano Convertible, of course.)
What do you think? Is this car a good representation of the Saleen badge? Or is it something that should die in a fire? IMO, it has a place in the automotive world, and that place is L.A.
