High Mileage Dependable Transportation: 04 Honda CRV

One of the questions I am most encountered with while working at Wheels and Deals is this, "How many miles does this car have?" Often times, when I inform them that the vehicle in question has over 150 thousand on the clock, they immediately say "thank you", and promptly head for the door. However, I would like to stress that just because a car has a gang of miles, that does not mean that it isn't worth buying. In fact, if you're looking for inexpensive, reliable transportation, a high mileage car may be absolutely perfect for your needs.

Keep in mind that not all cars are built to the same standard, and some are certainly longer lasting than others. But I can flip that argument around and say that the generally longer lasting cars can be nothing but a money pit if the previous owner didn't keep up with the maintenance. And that is the key; preventative maintenance. If the individual you purchase the car from has a fat stack of receipts and records, that is not a red flag. If they are anal enough to hold onto every single piece of paperwork they ever received regarding their car, that's generally a sign that they took really good care of it.
That being said, this 2004 Honda CRV Ex has over 188k miles on the odometer, and you would never know by looking at it. Sure there are small dings and a couple of minor scratches (it IS a used car), but overall, this is a good example of a dependable, clean ride that you can commute to and from work in without breaking the bank.

Getting 20mpg around town and 26mpg on the freeway is pretty good for a car with so much storage and people space. And although this thing screams practicality, it's a solid running vehicle with a lot more life left in it. Like I said, preventative maintenance records are the most important aspect when shopping for your next car.
