Back in the good ol' days of Pikes Peak, it was nothing more than a dirt road up a steep mountain. That was it. No rules, no asphalt, no barriers, just pure, unadulterated driving. In today's version of Pikes Peak, there is only a small portion of dirt track. If you check out both videos, you'll easily see the stark contrast of what it was to race in the early nineties vs. today. The first car featured is the legendary Peugeot 405 Turbo Pikes Peak Rally Car, and it's being piloted by the equally legendary, Ari Vatanen. The entire video is dedicated to showing the viewer how intense and scary the ride can be; especially after the part where he has to hold his hand up to keep the sun from blinding him. I couldn't honestly tell you if I had the huevos to participate in such reckless behavior. On the next video, you'll see a far more modern piece of engineering mastery, on a much more subdued (safer) race-course. This car has been dubbed the Suzuki SX4, with the driver aptly named, Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima, who has won the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb several times with the same car. Check out the videos and enjoy. (Interesting note: I have the Suzuki SX4 in one of my favorite games, Forza 4, and it ROCKS!!!)
